So I stumbled onto purl bee’s tutorial for a pompom cowl, and immediately set out to find some pompom trim to do this with because let’s face it, pompoms are the shit. After enquiring from shop to shop in the craft district (I don’t know if I can fully say that for Toronto, but it’s the closest thing I can think of) and dragging my bum back home, I managed to scrounge up 2 yards of this trim. 2 measly yards.
If any toronto craft shop owners read this (…is there a way to express negative probabilities?) please please please, I’m asking you in my nicest voice possible, order some pompom trim! It’s not even like you’re taking on a massive amount of risk - I’m a guaranteed customer!
I’m going to this wedding with my boyfriend for my best friend’s boyfriends brother and his fiance who is also friends with my boyfriend… confused yet? Anyway, my best friend spent $200 on a dress and heels and while I wish I could do that I’m a broke student so instead I spent $30 on this lovely silky grey and silky yellow material and I made my own dress.. something I’ve never done before. I’ve made a top before and it turned out pretty good but not amazing or anything so I was a bit nervous that this was gonna be a total waste of material and $30 but I surprised myself, it turned out so well I’m so happy with it and I can’t wait to wear it to the wedding! That’s the dress in the picture above this ramble. I used this blog entry from A Beautiful Mess to figure out how to make the dress and it worked really well so if you’re wondering how to make a dress like mine or a top then definitely check out her instructions! And trust me I don’t sew very often and when I do it never looks this good so if you’re new to sewing or just have never tried making a dress before have no fears it’s actually pretty easy! If you decide to make your own dress I’d love the see pictures when you’re done! Have fun sewing!
